SKILLED MIGRATION VISA

The basic requirements of General Skilled Migration Visas are:
Must be under 45 years
Occupation must be listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL)
Qualification/Skills must be assessed

Must have recent skilled work experience or Australian recent graduate

POINT TEST
Skilled Migration Visa has point system. In order to get pass mark, you need to score minimum total points. Points are allocated on Skills, Age, English, Work Experience, Spouse qualfication and other factors. You must score sufficient points on the points test to reach the pass mark applicable to your visa subclass. As the pass mark changes from time to time, you should check the current pass mark immediately before making your application.
The pass mark for the purposes of the Act and the Regulations in relation to the following applications:
- Skilled (Migrant) (Class VE) Independent Subclass 175 visas =120 points.
- Skilled (Migrant) (Class VE) Sponsored Subclass 176 visas =100 points.
- Skilled (Provisional) (Class VC) Regional – Sponsored Subclass 487 visas =100 points.
- Skilled (Provisional) (Class VF) Regional – Sponsored Subclass 475 visas=100 points.
- Skilled (Residence) (Class VB) Independent Subclass 885 visas=120 points.
- Skilled (Residence) (Class VB) Sponsored Subclass 886 visas=100 points.
The pool mark for the purposes of the Act and the Regulations in relation to the following applications:
- Skilled (Migrant) (Class VE) Independent Subclass 175 visas=100 points.
- Skilled (Migrant) (Class VE) Sponsored Subclass 176 visas=80 points.
- Skilled (Provisional) (Class VC) Regional – Sponsored Subclass 487 visas=100 points.
- Skilled (Provisional) (Class VF) Regional – Sponsored Subclass 475 visas is 100 points.
- Skilled (Residence) (Class VB) Independent Subclass 885 visas is 120 points.
- Skilled (Residence) (Class VB) Sponsored Subclass 886 visas is 100 points.
Qualification/ Skills: 40 or 50 or 60 Points
For Qualification/ Skills, there are three categories. Points are allocated on the basis of occupation list:
Managers, Professionals and Trade Skills - 60 points
Professionals - 50 points
Semi/Associate Professional - 40 points
Age: 15- 30 Points
18 - 29 Years = 30 points
30 - 34 Years = 25 points
35 - 39 Years = 20 points
40 - 44 Years = 15 points
English Proficiency
IELTS 7 or above in each band = 25 points
IELTS 6 or above in each band = 15 points
IELTS 5 or above in each band = 15 Points [Only for Trade Occupation]
Work Experience: 5 - 10 Points [Specific Work Experience
10 Points:- If you worked for at least 36 months during the 48 months immediately before the date of application in a nominated skilled occupation, or a closely related skilled occupation where 60 points occupation attracts.
5 Points[Specific Work Experience:- You will receive 5 points if your nominated skill is related to 40 and 50 point occupation and worked for at least 36 months during the 48 months immediately before the date of application
Spouse Point: 5 Points
You may get another 5 points if your spouse also meets the basic requirements mentioned above
Studied in Regional Area
5 points= If you studied 2 year full time course at any regional areas of Australia (Excluding Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Gold Cost, Wollongong and some other cities), you will get extra 5 points.
MODL Point
If you nominated occupation is listed on Migration Occupation Demand List (MODL) then you will get extra 15-20 points
Bonus Points
5 Points = If you are fluent in one of Australia's community languages, or
Australian Qualification
5 - 15 Points = If you have Australian qualification (at least 2 academic years of study in Australia): You may get 5 points if you have completed an Australian diploma higher qualification, or 10 points for a combined bachelor degree with honours or master degree, or 15 points for a PhD degree. You may get another 5 points if the study is in a regional or low population region
Relationship
15 Points = If you have a close relative who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you may get 15 points.

If you intend to apply under General Skilled Migraiton you must have a nominated occupation which is on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) at the time you apply. This is one of the mandatory requirement of GSM visa. Your nominated Occupation must be listed on Skill Occupation List. REGIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
A Skilled Independent Regional (SIR) Provisional Visa (Class UX; subclass 495) is available for people under 45 years of age whose English language ability and employment skills will contribute to regional Australia. The SIR visa was developed by the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) in consultation with State and Territory governments and is designed to assist regional areas attract, and retain, skilled migrants to meet skill shortages and boost development in regional communities.
The SIR visa is a pathway to Permanent resident visa. SIR visa holders can live and work withing the desinated areas of the state where getting sponsorship. The scheme provides skilled migrants with a temporary visa to look for employment and explore lifestyle opportunities. In order to apply Permanent resdient visa, SIR visa holders must work minimum 1 year full time and live at least 2 years in any regional areas of the state.
The SIR visa is thus a provisional visa, valid for a period of three years. Applicants for the SIR visa will be required to sign an undertaking that they, and the members of their family unit, will live, work or study in the regional areas where they get sponsorship.
SIR Provisional visa and other skilled migration visa application criteria and documentation process are likely same. The passmark of SIR is 100 points including State/Territory government sponsorship. The other regional opportunities are:

In order to obtain the permanent regional working visas, provisional working regional holders will need to demonstrate that they have lived in a designated regional area for two (2) years and have been employed for for 12 months and be sponsored under:
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa
State/Territory Nominated Independent (STNI) visa; or
State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner visa.
Overseas students may be eligible for this visa if they have lived in regional Australia while studying for at least 2 years and the study must not have been by distance learning, and obtain sponsorship from an authorised state or territory government. Prior to applying for the provisional regional working visa, potential applicants should seek the professional advice from a registered migration agent concerning living and working opportunities in rural and regional Australia.
